We had such a terrific time at “The Rustic Chic Later Summer Supper” on our hostess’ beautiful screened porch this past week that upon leaving I (brazenly) suggested “we must do this again real soon”. Our hostess replied “Absolutely!” And so seizing the opportunity, I blurted “how about Saturday morning?” Our hostess, being a woman of great generosity, readily agreed.
So we set the time for early this morning to take advantage of the cool breeze of the day and the dappled light. The food was simple – coffee, juice, cereal, strawberries and a few small croissants. I hauled over a collection of vintage and new china along with a large cachepot I filled with zinnias, summer’s happiest flowers, and which I gathered from a “cut your own” farmer’s market along the way. I thought it would be fun to jazz it up a bit with bright colors against all her white wicker porch furniture and upholstery. I also brought along some large and multi-striped, vintage tea towels for napkins. It was all great fun and a wonderful send-off to the waning days of summer on this long weekend.
And yes, before you ask, I did “suggest” a Rustic Chic late summer lunch . . . stay tuned.
