I love modern, especially abstract, art and even more so when used in traditional interiors. When done well, abstract art adds life and verve to a room and can ratchet up the rustic chic quotient immeasurably. I met Maureen Chatfield, whose lyrical abstract oil and mixed media paintings are shown here, about a year ago and am fortunate to have a few of her paintings in my shop. She’s an extremely talented, gallery-represented artist and will be having an exhibition entitled “Transitions”, set to open May 7 at The Burnt Mills Gallery (9 Olcott Square) in Bernardsville, NJ (www.burntmills.com). The show will present a progression of her art over the past decade, from representational to abstract.
She will also be exhibiting in an upcoming group show at the Cavalier Gallery in Greenwich, CT and in a solo exhibit at the Johnson & Johnson World Headquarters in New Brunswick, NJ beginning May 10.

I recently commissioned a white-on-white painting from Maureen for an upcoming project. The beautiful result, which she calls “White Roses,” is shown below.
