First, there was the Chanel pret-a-porter Spring 2010 show that was rustic chic in all its Marie-Antoinette-Hamlet-at-Versailles barniness. Then there was the report in The New York Times about the resurrection of Shabby Chic. I think there’s something in the air with all this rustic chicness.
It all came together for me when I was looking through the November/December 2009 issue of Selvedge magazine recently. If you’re not familiar with this folksy Brit mag, check it out at www.selvedge.org. The magazine’s slogan is “The Fabric of Your Life: Textiles in Fashion, Fine Art, Interiors, Travel and Shopping”.
The images shown here are fashions from Swedish designer, Ewa I Walla, who was featured in that issue. Her pretty milkmaids all in a row (and with their galvanized pails!) are beautiful, bucolic and every bit the rustic chic Swiss Miss!
