How Can You Be So Crewel?

Crewel is at the top of my list for the most rustic chic of fabrics.  The intricate chain- stitching of the various motifs never ceases to fascinate me.  I am particularly drawn to creamy white-on-white crewels like this one from Schumacher (www.fschumacher.com).  Its large and complex patterns, embroidered on a sturdy plain weave cotton background, make it ideal for large pillows as well as curtains and upholstery.  And how rustic chic would it be to upholster walls with this fabric?

It just goes to show – to be rustic chic, sometimes you have to be crewel.
